Mr. Woodrow Wilson "Wilkes" Linder, 97, of Berea Road, Smoaks, died Monday, February 27, 2012 at Colleton Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Rosa Lee Smoak Linder.
Funeral services will be held 2 o'clock, Thursday, March 1, 2012 at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home Chapel, Ehrhardt. Interment will follow in Little Swamp United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Linder was born June 9, 1914 in Bamberg County and was a son of the late Willie L. Linder and Sillar Kinsey Linder. He was a retired security officer and farmer; and had worked at the Cotton Mill in Bamberg and the State House in Columbia. He was a member of Little Swamp United Methodist Church and First Baptist Church of St. Matthews. He was a Mason for over 70 years and held a dual membership in Smoaks Masonic Lodge # 231 and the Israel Masonic Lodge #177 in St. Matthews, having been a Past Master and Chaplain for both lodges. He was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Vance Chapter #287, where he was a Past Chaplain.
Surviving are: a brother, Tommy Linder and his wife Sandra of St. George; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Annie Mae Linder Carter, Corine Linder Linder, Ruth Linder, Milbra Linder Douglas, Dubois, Thelma Linder Browning, and Dorothy Linder; and brothers, Clyde Linder, Jake Linder, Frederick Linder, Leonard Linder and Ernest Linder.
