Mr. Wilbur Roderick Mixon, 87, of Varnville, entered into rest Monday morning, September 29, 2014, at the Veterans Victory House in Walterboro.
Funeral services will be conducted 3 oclock Thursday afternoon, October 2, 2014, from Varnville First Baptist Church, 165 Palmetto Avenue West, Varnville. The Reverend Dr. Thomas Kelly officiating. Interment will follow in Sand Hill Cemetery, Pocotaligo Road, Varnville. The family has requested that members of the Rail Road Sunday School Class serve as honorary escorts.
The family will receive friends prior to the funeral ceremony beginning at 1 oclock that afternoon in the Sanctuary of Varnville First Baptist Church.
Born March 3, 1927, a native of Hampton County, he was a son of the late Wilbur Mixon and the late Alita Polk Mixon. He served our country faithfully in the United States Navy during World War II and retired from Domino Sugar Bag Plant in North Charleston. He was a member of Varnville Baptist Church where he was also a member of the Rail Road Sunday School Class. He was a member of Saint Johns Masonic Lodge, No. 333 Ancient Free Masons, the Scottish Rite, and Omar Shrine Temple. He will be fondly remembered for his love of spending time riding around the farm, hunting, and fishing.
Surviving are: his wife of sixty-three years, Mrs. Marceil Turner Mixon; a son, W. R. Roddy Mixon, Jr. of Charleston; and two grandchildren, Kelli Mixon and Matthew Mixon both of Charleston.
