Mr. Wendell Kenneth Bishop, 77, of Sniders Highway, Islandton, entered into rest Wednesday afternoon, August 7, 2013, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro following an extended illness. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Eleanor Sanders Bishop who died in 1998.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 oclock Saturday morning, August 10, 2013, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Varnville. Interment with Masonic Rites, conferred by Hudson Masonic Lodge, will follow in New Hope Cemetery, Forks Road, Islandton.
Born November 26, 1935, a native and lifelong resident of Colleton County he was a son of the late Walter Eddie Bishop and the late Nora Lane Kinsey Bishop. Wendell was the founder and owner of Bishops Auto Collision in Varnville; a business he successfully operated for many years which established his familys name throughout the Lowcountry of South Carolina for their quality and precision in auto body repair work. He was a faithful member of New Hope Advent Christian Church in Islandton where he was active in the churchs music program and was a former Deacon. HE was a master mason holding his membership at Hudson Masonic Lodge, NO. 373 Ancient Free Masons in Islandton. He will be fondly remember for his avid love of fishing.
Surviving are: three sons, Wendell Allen Bishop and his wife Kathy of Ruffin, Wayne Kenneth Bishop of Islandton, and Victor Barry Bishop of Islandton; two brothers, Carroll Bishop and his wife Jackie of Early Branch and James E. Bishop of Islandton; and a sister, Jeraldine Skinner and her husband Charlie of Islandton. There are six grandchildren that also survive.
In Lieu of flowers, the family has respectfully requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to: New Hope Advent Christian Church, Post Office Box 55, Islandton, South Carolina 29929.
