Troy “Wayne” Nettles passed away on September 12, 2025, at home surrounded by family. Wayne was a devoted husband and father, an avid outdoorsman, and a fixture in the Hampton County community.
Born and raised in Colleton County, South Carolina, Wayne built a life grounded in faith, family, and hard work. An avid hunter and fisherman, Wayne loved the outdoors and the community it brought him. He loved hunting and fishing, but what he enjoyed even more was sharing hunting stories and “rubbing elbows” with the younger generation of future hunters.
For over three decades, Wayne owned and operated Wayne’s Deer Processing, a local deer and hog processing business that became a well-known name far beyond the bounds of Hampton County. Hunters traveled from across the country to get a taste of his famous venison sausage and burgers. Wayne’s reputation wasn’t just built on skill, but also on integrity, authenticity, and generosity. Many came for the processing, but many more stayed to talk with him and share their own hunting stories or catch up on life—he never met a stranger. A devout Christian, Wayne carried his deep, unwavering faith with him every day of his life.
Wayne loved his family. He was a fiercely devoted husband who was married to the love of his life, Connie, for 50 years. Together, they celebrated their golden anniversary last December. Wayne was a proud father to his daughter, Paige. Everything he did was driven by his love for his family.
He is survived by his wife, Connie Nettles of Hampton, South Carolina; daughter, Paige Nettles of Atlanta, Georgia; one sister, Cathy White of Walterboro and her husband Kenny; one brother, Jack Nettles of Townsend, Georgia and his wife Lynn; three sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law (each of whom were like his own siblings), Gail Lee, Kathy Ginn, David Drawdy, and Nancy Walters; numerous loving nieces and nephews; and countless dear friends from all walks of life.
Wayne was preceded in death by his mother, Elsie Nettles, and father, Homer Nettles.
