Mr. Walter Marion Carter, 71, of Tabor Road, Ruffin, died Monday afternoon, August 22, 2011, surrounded by family while at Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 o'clock Friday morning, August 26, 2011, at Tabor United Methodist Church, Bells Highway, Ruffin, with The Reverend Wayne Major and The Reverend David Cox officiating. Interment will follow in the churchyard.
Mr. Carter was born April 7, 1940, in the Little Swamp Community of Bamberg County and was a son of the late Jacob English Carter and the late Ottie Bunton Carter. He was a farmer, mechanic, and a sheet metal worker and was employed for many years at the Savannah River Site near Aiken. He was a member of Sheet Metal Local No. 399 for 31 years. He was a member of Tabor United Methodist Church in Ruffin where he most recently served as Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees and helped to maintain the grounds. He was also a member of the United Methodist Men's Club. He was a proud father and grandfather and he enjoyed spending time with his wife, daughters, and grandson and maintaining his trucks and tractors.
He is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Mrs. Cynthia Gianakis Carter; two daughters, Kimberly Carter Neal and her husband Frank of Castle Rock, Colorado and Amy Lynn Carter of Charleston; two sisters, Mary Williams and her husband Holland of Walterboro and Cornelia Maude Goodwin of Little Swamp; and a grandson, Nicholas S. Neal. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Everett O. Carter, Jake E. Carter, and a sister, Ernestine Strickland.
