Mr. Walter James Allen, 77, of 506 Lightsey Way, Walterboro, entered into eternal rest Wednesday evening, January 7, 2009, while attending nightly service at Bedon Baptist Church in Walterboro.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 oclock Saturday afternoon, January 10, 2009, from Bedon Baptist Church, 2410 Cottageville Highway, Walterboro with The Reverend Eric Bjork officiating. Interment will follow in the churchyard.
Mr. Allen was born March 17, 1931, in Martinsville, Virginia, and was a son of the late Walter James Allen and the late Gracie Bell Allen. He was a retired forester from Westvaco in Walterboro where he worked for over thirty years having retired in 1996. An active and longtime member of Bedon Baptist Church, he was active in many aspects of the churchs work and serving the Lord was one of his greatest joys. He loved his church, and there he was member of the Good Neighbor Sunday School Class, and was a former member of the Deacon Board, Song Leader, and Sunday School teacher. He was a master mason and was a former member of Unity Masonic Lodge No. 55, Ancient Free Masons. He will also be remembered for the love he had of fishing the local creeks and rivers of Colleton County.
Surviving are: his wife of forty-two years, Mrs. Mary Hodge Allen; and one daughter, Christie Allen Crosby and her husband Matthew of Pelion. There are also many dear friends whom he loved as his extended family that also survive him.
