Virginia Wiggins

Mrs. Virginia Benton Wiggins, 79, of Walterboro, entered into eternal rest Thursday evening, February 9, 2023, at Colleton Medical Center.  She was first married to the late Thomas Robertson and secondly to the late John Wiggins.

Born March 18, 1943, in Ruffin, she was a daughter of the late Albert Benton and Georgia Griffin Benton.  She was a retired site manager for Colleton County Council on Aging.  Mrs. Virginia was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Walterboro Branch.  She was very active in her church and filled many roles including Branch Relief Society President for 10 years, Branch Primary President, Stake Relief Society Leadership, and Branch Music Leader. She also organized the first and only choir with the Walterboro Branch and also worked as the Branch Young Women’s Leader.  She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter No. 147, where she was a Past Worthy Matron.

Surviving are: her daughter, Penny Robertson Driggers of Walterboro; grandsons, Alton Driggers and Corey Nettles; step-children, Shirly Wiggins, Johnny Wiggins, and Robbie Wiggins; many step grandchildren; one whom she loved as a brother, VonLehe Griffin; special niece, Tammy Beach; and a special cousin, Gail Thomas.  She was preceded in death by her daughter, April Dawn Wiggins; and a brother, John Marshall Benton.

Funeral services will be held 3 o’clock, Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1035 Dandridge Road, Walterboro.  Interment will follow in Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, 16147 Lowcountry Highway, Ruffin.

The family will receive friends during a time of visitation Wednesday afternoon beginning at 2 o’clock in the church sanctuary.
