Biography
Mrs. Viola Wooten Smith, 92, of Hampton, entered into eternal rest Sunday, July 8, 2012 at her daughter's residence in Cummings. She was the widow of the late Reese Smith.
Funeral services will be held 4 o'clock, Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at First Christian Church in Hampton with Reverend Claude Hydrick officiating. Interment will follow in Hampton Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith was born January 21, 1920 in the small town of Nixville in Hampton County and was a daughter of the late John Wooten and Lettie Hadwin Wooten. She was a member of First Christian Church in Hampton, was a retired seamstress, and will always be remembered for the love she had for her family.
Surviving are: her children, Gladys Miller of Aiken, Carolyn Cook of Cummings, Mac Smith of Hampton, Byrnes Smith and his wife Jewell of Hampton, Betty Cook and her husband Donnie of Hampton, Reese Smith and his wife Bitsy of Hampton and Nina Gray and her husband Ronnie of Hampton; brothers, Franklin Wooten and his wife Rosa of Varnville, Ray Wooten and his wife Helen of Hampton, Roy Wooten of Scotia and Dean Wooten and his wife Patricia of Springfield, GA; sisters, Marie Nix of Furman and Helouise DeLoach of Hampton; 18 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Jesse David Smith; 2 sons-in-law, Lee Miller and Lester Cook; daughter-in-law, Janice Wessinger; grandchildren, Ricky Lee Miller, Anthony Smith, and Steven Miller; brothers, John Wooten and Nathan Wooten; and sisters, Cotiel Nunnally and Juanita Warren.
