Biography

Mr. Vernon Hollen Herndon, 72, of North Charleston, entered into his eternal rest Thursday afternoon, November 22, 2012, at the Roper Hospital in Charleston.

Funeral services will be conducted 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon, November 25, 2012, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro with The Reverend Michael Frederickson officiating. Interment will follow in Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 2210 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro.

Born February 16, 1941, a native of Colleton County, he was a son of the late Freddie Thomas Herndon, Sr. and the late Margie Cook Herndon. He was a nuclear inspector at the Charleston Naval Shipyard and was of the Southern Baptist faith. He was a member of the Summerville Masonic Lodge, No. 234 - Ancient Free Masons, where he was a Past Master; and was also a thirty-second degree Scottish Rite. He was also a member of the Order of The Eastern Star. He will be fondly remembered for his love of watching the old western movies.

Surviving are: his loving and devoted wife of fifty-one years, Mrs. Marie "Cookie" Feagin Herndon; and a daughter, Sandy Herndon Thompkins and her husband Ray of North Charleston. He was preceded in death by a brother, Freddie Thomas Lee Herndon, Jr. and a sister, Eudell Herndon Priester.
