Vernell Altman Ulmer

August 4, 1933 — October 8, 2016

Mrs. Vernell Altman Ulmer, 83, of Hampton, passed away Saturday evening, October 8, 2016, at Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.

The funeral service will be held 11 am, Tuesday morning, October 11, 2016 at Sandy Run Baptist Church, 2100 Sandy Run Road, Hampton.  Interment will follow in the Crocketville Cemetery.

Mrs. Ulmer was born August 4, 1933 in Hampton County and was a daughter of the late John E. Altman, Sr. and Iva Smith Altman.  She was a receptionist for many years at Westinghouse.  She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Crocketville Chapter.  She was an active and faithful member of Sandy Run Baptist Church, where she was a member of the church choir, was a past Sunday School Teacher and member of the WMU.  She loved fishing and gardening and loved the outdoors.  She especially loved her animals, loved people and cherished her family.

Surviving are: her husband, Terry B. Ulmer of Hampton; sister, Blanche Winstead of Hampton; brother, Don Altman and his wife Shirley of Hampton; 4 nephews, Danny, Mark, Keith, and Byron; great nephews, Garrett, Risden and Reeves; and great nieces, Miley, Abigail, Grayson, Melissa and Jessica.  She was preceded in death by her son, Rick Ulmer; brothers, John Altman, Jr. and James Altman; and a sister, Eunice Thomas.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in her memory to the following: Sandy Run Baptist Church, 2100 Sandy Run Road, Hampton, South Carolina 29924; or to, Crocketville Cemetery Association, Post Office Box 158, Hampton South Carolina 29924.
