Verda R. Nettles

December 1, 1938 — December 24, 2014

Mrs. Verda R. Nettles, 76, entered into eternal rest Wednesday morning, December 24, 2014, while surrounded by her loving family at her home on Azalea Patch Road in Ruffin while under the care of Hospice Care of South Carolina.

Funeral services will be conducted 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon, December 28, 2014, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment will follow in Mount Carmel United Methodist Churchyard, 5277 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro.

The family will receive friends prior to the funeral ceremony beginning at 1 o’clock that afternoon in the Harbiston Stateroom of the Mortuary.

Born December 1, 1938, a native of Colleton County, she was a daughter of the late Renferd C. Crosby and the late Miriam Ruth Beach Crosby. Verda will always be remembered for her loving, caring, and giving nature which allowed her to provide wonderful care to many Alzheimer’s patients during her lifetime. Not only with those she provided care, but also with her family and friends she always gave to others before doing for herself. She was a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church in Walterboro, and was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Over the years she assisted the Wounded Worriers Project which was dear to her heart. Flowers was her greatest pastime and she spent countless hours in her yards. In the earlier years of her life she had worked as a floral designer.

Surviving are: her daughter, Linda M. Jones and her husband Mickey of Lodge; a granddaughter, Christy Jones Carter and her husband Scott of Lodge; and two step-grandchildren, Mitch Jones and his wife L.J. of Texas and Michelle Jones Kinsey and her husband Tony of Bamberg. There are two brothers, Renferd Crosby (Helen) of Ruffin and Jonny Crosby (Gay) of Walterboro; and a sister, Annette Thomas of Ruffin. She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law whom she loved dearly as her own brother, Buddy Thomas.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Hospice Care of South Carolina and their staff, Kim, Beth, Renee, and Patricia for the love, care, and support they diligently provided to Verda and her family.

Flowers will be accepted, or for those that wish, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in her memory to: Hospice Care of South Carolina, 134 Bells Highway, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
