Vena Mae Holland

Mrs. Vena Mae Turner Holland, 78, of Estill, entered into her eternal rest Saturday evening, December 10, 2022, at the Beaufort Memorial Hospital.  She remained throughout her life the loving wife of the late Willis Dewey Holland of Estill.

Born November 11, 1944, in Hampton County, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Willie Floyd Turner and the late Vena Winn Turner.

She was an attendee of Nixville Baptist Church, her Christian faith being a cornerstone of her life from beginning to end. Her well-read Bible was studied and quoted often, Christ’s word never far from her heart and mind.

Vena Mae was a proud member and joyful participant of Order of the Easter Star. Having been active in Lily Chapter # 27 and Community Chapter # 206, proficiently maintaining the seat of Ruth in both Chapters. She would and did happily visit any chapter where she could be of service.

Her pastimes included the love on needle and thread, she was considered a cross stitch artist by those fortunate enough to have a piece of her work, as well as a love of flower and vegetable gardens. However, the joy of the children in her life was her greatest pleasure.

Surviving are: her son, Wilson Holland of Nixville; a brother, Willie Floyd Turner, Jr. (Annie Tuner) of Nixville; three sisters, Betty Ford, Emma Bishop, and Josie Smith all of Nixville, sisters-in-law, Dot Holland of Allendale, Pat Bates (Russell Bates) of Varnville, Christy Williams of Allendale, Willie Mae Stevenson (Robert Stevenson) of Gainsville, Georgia, and Janice Crosby of Dublin, Georgia; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her sister Emma Jean Turner, brother Billy Turner, and beloved brothers-in-law, Palmer Ford, Dennis A. Smith, Lamar Bishop, Bobby Holland, Sr., Roy Williams, and Sonny Crosby.

This obituary would not be complete without mentioning her beloved pets Loopy and Hercules who preceded her, as well as Petunia who will miss her greatly.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 o'clock, Saturday morning, December 17, 2022 at Nixville Baptist Church, 3915 Two Sisters Ferry Road, Estill. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends prior to the funeral ceremony beginning at 10 o'clock in the church sanctuary.
