Mrs. Veda Louise Tuten Polk, 77, of Ashton Road, Islandton, entered into rest Wednesday morning, April 24, 2013, at a nursing facility in North Augusta. She was the widow of Mr. Robert A. Polk.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 oclock Saturday morning, April 27, 2013, from Rice Patch Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, 15246 Sniders Highway, Islandton. The Reverend Dr. Larry Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Sandy Run Baptist Church Cemetery, Sandy Run Road, Hampton.
Born May 1, 1935, a native of Varnville, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late John W. Tuten and the late Margaret Stanley Tuten. She was a nurse having retired from the former Walterboro Hospital which is known today as Colleton Medical Center. She was a member of Rice Patch Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Islandton. She will be fondly remembered for centering her life around her loving family and for being dedicated to her children and grandchildren. She was a talented seamstress and loved styling clothing for her grandchildren. She was also a very talented cook who was known for her delightful southern cooking.
Surviving are: two sons, David B. Polk of Holly Hill and Curtis R. Polk and his wife Terri of Rock Hill; a daughter, Wanda P. Kuykendall and her husband Randy of North Augusta; a brother, Tommy Tuten of Varnville; and four sisters, Naomi T. Kicklighter of Islandton and Vera Miller, Elizabeth Montgomery, and Elaine Ginn all of Varnville. There are five grandchildren, Johanna Hodge, John Winn, Jr., Billy Polk, Kristen Polk, and Tiffany Burleson; and eleven great grandchildren that also survive. She was preceded in death by her brother, Walter Tuten; and a sister, Marguerite Swain.
