Mrs. Beulah Urell McMillan Lutz, 97, entered into rest Sunday evening, March 8, 2020, surrounded by her loving family at her home in Islandton under hospice care. She was the wife of the late Mr. George W. Lutz.
Born April 18, 1922 in Colleton County, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Charles Hiers McMillan and the late Geneva Ula Murdaugh McMillan. Urell graduated from Walterboro High School and worked first at American Tobacco Company in Charleston, South Carolina. She then was a telephone operator with Southern Bell in Charleston and Bell Telephone in Pennsylvania for over thirty years. George and Urell maintained dual homes in both South Carolina and Pennsylvania, traveling back and forth often to enjoy all of their family and friends. Urell was a very generous compassionate, loving and kind woman. She enjoyed her role as a wife, a mother, and Nana to many. She was a very dedicated worker and also enjoyed spending many hours sewing, crafting, and making some of the most beautiful quilts entirely hand stitched. She and her late husband were able to enjoy many vacations over the years visiting in the United States as well as several countries.
Her only son, Julian Hartwell Walters, preceded George and Urell in death, but not before blessing them with six grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and fifteen great great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Ronella Ida McMillan Winchester of Islandton; and a brother, James C. McMillan (Joan) of Islandton. She was preceded in death by three brothers, C. H. McMillan, Jr., Hezekiah Henry McMillan, and Thomas Riddick McMillan.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in her memory to: Doctor’s Creek Baptist Church Mission Fund, 126 Doctor’s Creek Road, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 o’clock Thursday morning, March 12, 2020, from Doctor’s Creek Baptist Church, 126 Doctor’s Creek Road, Walterboro. Interment will follow at 3 o’clock that afternoon in Carolina Memorial Park, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, South Carolina.
