Travis Jerome
Godley, Sr.
August 31, 1952 – April 5, 2026
Travis Jerome Godley Sr. 73, of Walterboro, passed away peacefully on April 5th, 2026. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Linda Glanton Godley, who preceded him in death on January 6, 2026.
He was born to the late Norris Ceal and Faye B. Godley on August 31, 1952, fittingly, in the eye of hurricane Able, a beginning that seemed to reflect the strength and resilience he would carry throughout his life.
Travis lived a full and thoughtful life. His work as a business consultant took him across the world, giving him a diverse view of people and places, but in the end, it was the simple things that mattered most to him, like over easy eggs and a good bowl of grits from the local Waffle House. In his later years, when his travel was limited only to the five-mile radius of his little red chair, he found joy in following the lives of his children and grandchildren, delighting in their adventures as if he was right there with them.
He enjoyed cooking, especially for people with big appetites. He had a love for beekeeping and gardening, taking every opportunity to teach others about both. He was a gifted storyteller, able to bring moments to life in a way that made people from all walks of life feel connected. An avid reader, he was always learning and encouraging others around him to do the same.
Travis was a giver by nature. He poured his time and energy into his community, faithfully supporting youth programs like Scouts, Christmas gift drives, the Empty Bowls ministry, and local library events, never seeking recognition, only hoping to make a difference. And he did, in more ways than can be counted. Those who knew him will remember the way he naturally found himself at the center of any gathering, sharing stories and bringing laughter. Though he is deeply missed, his life lives on in the stories he told, the lessons he passed down, and the family he loved so well.
Travis is survived by his son, Travis Jerome Godley Jr. (TJ) and his wife, Holly, of St. Helena; and his daughter, E. Denise Godley-Givens and her husband, Joseph of Islandton. He was a proud and deeply devoted grandfather to Noah, Jonah, Micah, and Ezrah Givens. There was nothing he loved more than being their “Pappy.”
He is also survived by his sisters, Jeanine Rhodes of Edisto Beach and Elaine Gibson and her husband, Robert, of Islandton; and his brothers, Tommie Godley and his wife, Kelly, of Colston Branch, and David Godley of Beaufort; along with a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Godley of Islandton and a wife, Ruby N. McNabb of Springfield, MO.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be directed in his memory to the following: Hallie Hill Animal Sanctuary, 5604 New Road, Hollywood, South Carolina 29449; or to, Friends of the Colleton County Memorial Library, 600 Hampton Street, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
The community is invited to visit with the family from 6 o’clock until 8 o’clock this Friday evening, April 10, 2026 at THE BRICE W. HERNDON AND SONS FUNERAL HOMES AND CREMATORY, WALTERBORO CHAPEL, 1193 Bells Highway, Walterboro, 843.538.5408.
