Tommy Tuten

November 5, 1946 — May 17, 2025

Varnville, South Carolina

Thomas Lloyd Tuten, Sr., affectionately known as “Tommy”, 78, of Varnville, entered into eternal rest Saturday morning May 17, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his family under the care of Agape Hospice.

Born November 5, 1946, in Hampton County, he was the son of the late John W. Tuten and Margaret Stanley Tuten.  He served his country in the South Carolina Army National Guard.  He retired from Westinghouse and was a farmer.  Tommy was an avid horse lover who enjoyed both training and riding them.  He was one of the founders of the Woody Williams Saddle Club and was a former 4-H Leader.  He was a skilled craftsman known for building custom wagons and buckboards (buggies).  He was a member of Sandy Run Baptist Church.  If you knew Tommy, you knew that he was a jokester, always pranking anyone he could, and especially loved making people laugh.  Most of all, Tommy dearly loved his family and spending time with them.

Surviving are: his wife of 57 years, Linda Rahn Tuten of Varnville; sons, Todd Tuten (April) and Ricky Tuten (Joanna); grandchildren, Ashley Wood (Rick), Seth Tuten (Savannah), Colton Tuten (Rebecca) Sydney Sullivan (Gage), Bailey Tuten (Lex), and Abby Tuten; his granddaughter by heart, Brooke Ashby; great grandchildren, Bowman Tuten, Laken Tuten, Gates Tuten, and two great grandchildren on the way, Amelia Tuten and Gage Sullivan, Jr.; sisters, Naomi Kicklighter (Russell), Elaine Ginn (Jessie), and Vera Miller.  He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Victoria “Tori” Tuten; great grandchildren, Tate Tuten and Bella Tuten; and siblings, Walter Tuten, Margerite Swain, Veda Polk, and Elizabeth Montgomery.

The family would like to thank Agape Hospice and especially their nurses, Kendra, Adrienne, and Warren, for the love and care they have given them during this time.

Funeral services will be held 11 o’clock, Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at The Brice Herndon Funeral Home, Varnville-Hampton Chapel.  Interment will follow in Sandy Run Cemetery, Sandy Run Road, Hampton.
