Mr. Thomas Albert Tommy Lightsey, 72, of East Oak Street, Hampton, died Thursday, July 29, 2010 at his residence.
Graveside funeral services will be held 11 am, Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Bowers Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery. (Directions are at the end of the obituary)
Mr. Lightsey was born September 10, 1937 in Oliver, Georgia and was a son of the late Herman Burns Lightsey, Sr. and Tinnie Mason Lightsey. He was a former agent for United Insurance Company, was a former Deputy for the Hampton County Sheriffs Department and retired as a Probation Parole Officer for Allendale County. He served his country in the National Guard. He enjoyed fishing, working in his shop and with his flowers, but will be most fondly remembered as a devoted husband.
Surviving are: his wife, Dortha Tubbs Lightsey; his brothers and sister, John Gerald Lightsey, Sr. and his wife Irene of Columbia, Betty Jane Jeffcoat and her husband Skeeter of Hampton and Herman Burns Lightsey, Jr. and his wife Mary of Irmo; brother-in-law, Cleveland Ridgeway of Manning; and stepchildren, Elizabeth DeLoach and her husband Rav of Ridgeland, Tom Miner and his wife Gilda of Hampton, William Miner and his wife Wanda of Florida and Roberta Peet of Ridgeland.
He is also survived by: nieces and nephews, Gary Ridgeway and his wife Sharon of Manning, Kathy Brunson of Alcolou, John Gerald Lightsey, Jr. and his wife Carissa of Alabama, Shelley Jeffcoat Crews and her husband Jamie of Varnville, Jennifer Lynn Gibson and her husband Marshall of Siler City, North Carolina and Amy Elizabeth Lightsey of Athens, Georgia; 7 great nieces and nephews, 12 step grandchildren; and 17 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Cleo Elizabeth Ridgeway.

From I-95:
Take exit 38 onto Hwy 68 towards Hampton. Continue on this road thru the town of Varnville and thru the town of Hamtpton. Once you are out of Hampton, continue on Hwy 278 West, towards Brunson. Approx. 5 miles from Hampton, you will see a sign for Bowers Cemetery on the right. Cross over the railroad tracks and the cemetery will be about one -two miles down the dirt road.
