Thomas Edward Skinner
July 22, 1950 — October 3, 2012
Mr. Thomas Edward Skinner, 62, of Pine Street West, Varnville, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at the Hospice House of Charleston.
Funeral services will be held 2 pm, Friday, October 5, 2012, at First Baptist Church of Hampton. Interment with full military honors will follow in Hampton Cemetery.
Mr. Skinner was born July 22, 1950 in Augusta, Georgia and was a son of the late George Edward Skinner and Ruby Holt Skinner. He worked for Westinghouse for 15 years and then retired from the South Carolina National Guard after 39 years of service. He was a former member or West End Baptist Church, where he was a former church choir leader and Music Director, former Deacon, Special Programs Committee member and RA Leader. He was currently a member of First Baptist Church of Hampton. He was a member of the SC National Guard Association, member of the NCO Club where he served as President of the Hampton County Non-Commissioned Officers Club in 1980, 1982, and 2004-2008. He served on the Hampton County Watermelon Festival Planning Committee in 1980, and was an active member of the Hampton County Concerned Citizens for Better Government.
Surviving are: his wife of 42 years, Geraldine Jarrell Skinner; daughters, Toby Skinner Smith of Summerville and Priscilla Skinner Mills of Hampton; granddaughter, Lauren Taylor Smith; sister, Geraldine Skinner Crapse of Hampton; brothers, George Walter Skinner of Hampton and Donald Eugene Skinner of Rincon, Georgia; and many nieces and nephews.
