Thomas Pinckney
December 10, 1940 — July 19, 2012
Mr. Thomas Montgomery Pinckney, 71, of Phillips Road, Walterboro, entered into his eternal rest Thursday morning, July 19, 2012, at his residence.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted 11 o'clock Saturday morning, July 28, 2012, from Saint Anthony Roman Catholic Church, 925 Jefferies Boulevard, Walterboro with The Reverend Father Jeffrey Kendall officiating. The family has requested that member of the Knights of Columbus serve as honorary escorts and their presence is requested at the church at 10:30 that morning.
The family will receive friends following the funeral mass in Trinity Hall as Saint Anthony's Church.
Mr. Pinckney was born December 10, 1940, in Edisto Island, South Carolina and was a son of the late Charles William Pinckney and the late June Hamilton Pinckney. He served his country in the United States Army and Coast Guard during the Cuba Missile Crisis. He was a carpenter in Boston, Massachusetts where he lived before returning to Walterboro in 1987. He was a member of Saint Anthony Roman Catholic Church where he served as an Eucharistic Minister as well as having served in many other aspects of the church's work. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus where he was a Past Grand Knight. He will be fondly remembered for his unique personality and for his live of fishing the local creeks of Colleton County and crabbing.
Surviving are: his wife of fifty-one years, Barbara Kay Pinckney; two daughters, Clare Dewey Straub of Reevesville and Tracy Marie Luna of Saint George; three brothers; and five sisters. There are six grandchildren, Justine Glennon, Ashley Marie Dewey Tindall, Daryl Patrick Dewey, Leah Kristin Glennon, Chelsea Kay Glennon, and Cheyann Marie Straub; and four great grandchildren, Brylie McKayla Dewey, Kayce Baylan Glennon, Kaylee Marie Dewey, and Christopher Thomas Glennon. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Patrick Dewey.
