Mr. Thomas Leftwich Kay, Jr., 69, of Cottageville Highway, Walterboro, entered into rest Tuesday morning, September 23, 2014, at his home while surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Agape Hospice.
Funeral services will be conducted 4 oclock Friday afternoon, September 26, 2014, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The Reverend Eric Bjork officiating. Interment will follow in Live Oak Cemetery, South Jefferies Boulevard, Walterboro.
Born October 6, 1944, in Joplin, Missouri where his father was stationed in the military at the time, he was a son of the late Thomas Leftwich Kay, Sr. and the late Polly Louise Cook Kay. A veteran of the United States Navy, he served during the Vietnam Conflict. Thomas worked for South Carolina Electric and Gas, where he along with many others of his generation became a beloved icon and friend to many. His work ethic was well known and after a dedicated career he retired from their Canadys Plant as a Supervisor in Operations. He was a jokester and prankster who possessed a great love for his family and the numerous friends he made during his life time. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and hunting and with each came a story and tale of his excursions. He was a member of Bedon Baptist Church and also the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Walterboro Lodge, No. 1988.
Surviving are: his wife of forty-six years, Mrs. Gloria Haskell Kay; two sons, Thomas Leftwich Kay, III and Gary Lee Kay both of Walterboro; and a granddaughter, Chloe Kay as well as several beloved cousins.
