Thomas Giardini

October 3, 1942 — September 19, 2011

Mr. Thomas Edward Giardini, affectionately known by many as simply "Tom", age 68, departed this earthly life this past Monday evening, September 19, 2011, having been taken by his hand and led into his reward by his grandson Will after fighting a courageous battle against cancer while in his residence on Coolers Dairy Road near Round O, sounded by the love and admiration his family and under the care of Solaris Hospice.

Born October 3, 1942, in Olean, New York, he was a son of the late John Frank Giardini and the late Marion Thomas Giardini Lawgaski. He served his country faithfully having entered in the United States Army in 1965 seeing two tours of action during the Vietnam Era and one tour of action during the Korean Conflict receiving his honorable discharge holding the rank of Staff Sergeant and after completing six and one half years of service to our country. He moved to the Colleton County area in 1973, and worked until his retirement with Dayco of Walterboro where he was a maintenance mechanic. He was of the Roman Catholic Faith, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars - Olean New York Post No. 1619. He was a former member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks - Lodge no. 1988; as well as the ; the Loyal Order of the Moose. He was avid fisherman and always enjoyed fishing the freshwater creeks of Colleton County or the catch he and his buddy "Will" would find from any offshore excursion.

Surviving are his wife of forty-four years, Mrs. Linda "Lin" Snyder Giardini; two daughters, Lynda Sue Giardini Johnson and her husband Thomas of Summervillle and Shannon Annette Giardini Nivison and her husband William of Sumter; three brothers, Jerry Giardini of Allegany, New York, Ronnie Giardini of Salamanki, New York, and Michael Giardini of Limestone, New York; three sisters, Margie Hirst of Olean, New York, Anita Giardini of Allegany, New York, Sharon Vincent Cypress, Texas; and also his step-father, Robert Lagowski of Olean, New York. There are five grandchildren, Megan Grace Miller and her husband Peter of Summerville, Dustin Wiggins and Dillon Wiggins Summerville, Ethan Johnson and Connor Johnson of Summerville; and three step-grandchildren, Heather Barksdale and her husband Michael of Jacksonville, Florida, Scott Nivison and his wife Ivy of Niceville, Florida, and Matthew Nivision of Winslow, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Wendell William "Will" Nettles, III; a brother, Victor Giardini and a three month old sister, Linda Sue Giardini.
