Thelma Craven

August 17, 1934 — April 1, 2015

Mrs. Thelma Elizabeth Craven, age 80, entered into rest early Wednesday morning, April 1, 2015, at her home in Walterboro while under the care of Hospice of Charleston.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 o’clock Saturday morning, April 4, 2015, from Bethel Baptist Church, 3481 Sidney’s Road, Walterboro.  The Reverend Steve Crosby officiating.  Interment will follow in Bedon Baptist Churchyard, 2410 Cottageville Highway, Walterboro.

The family will receive friends during a time of visitation from 6 o’clock until 8 o’clock Friday evening at Bethel Baptist Church.

Born August 17, 1934, a native and lifelong resident of Colleton County, she was a daughter of the late Eric Maldon Craven and the late Inez Craven Craven.  Thelma loved children with all her heart, and while she had none of her own, she helped raised and played a very influential role in the lives of countless young people whom loved her.   She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where she was a nursery worker and had taught the preschool class.   Thelma as also an excellent southern cook.

Surviving are: two sisters, Carrie Craven Neuroth of Walterboro and Nancy Craven Parker of Summerville; as well as a beloved host of nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by four brothers, Silas Craven, Murdaugh Craven, John Craven, and Maldon Craven.

Flowers will be accepted, or for those that so desire, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in her memory to: Bethel Baptist Church, 3481 Sidney’s Road, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
