Mrs. Suzanne McLennan Anderson, affectionately known by Suzy, age 66, of Oxford Drive in the Silver Hills Subdivision of Walterboro, entered into her eternal rest Tuesday evening, November 27, 2012, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro, following a brief illness.
Born January 22, 1946, a native of Detroit, Michigan, she was a daughter of the late Helen Jenner Anton and the late Robert Byrne France, Sr. She was a graduate of Indiana University where she received her education in the identification, authentication, terminology, and apprising of antiques and also completed undergraduate work at Franklin Pierce College in Rindge, New Hampshire, and McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Formerly of Holmdel, New Jersey, she and her husband made Walterboro, the front porch of the Lowcountry, their home for the past six years. Suzy was an antique lover, having been a dealer and certified appraiser she along with her husband owned and operated Andersons Antiques in the Heart of Walterboro on East Washington Street, and she was formerly an appraiser and dealer with Bachelor Hill Antiques in Walterboro. She was actively involved in the Downtown Merchants Association where she was currently serving one of two terms as President of the Association and had also served as Treasurer. Suzy was a wonderfully talented and artistic person.
Suzy was also the owner of Heritage Antiques and Appraisal Services from 1980 until 2006, and Anderson Auctions from 1995 until 2006. Over the course of her career she had the privilege of serving such clients as Saint Pauls Insurance Company, The Attorney General of the State of New Jersey, Monmouth County Historical Society and the Smithsonian Institute.
She was the past president of the award winning New Jersey Chapter of International Society of Appraisers and was also the past chairman of both their Appraisal Legislation Committee and Education Committee. She also served as an Advisory Board Member for both Schroeders Publishing Company Since 1991 and Warmans Publishing Company from 1992 until 1995. Through her love of sharing her knowledge, experience, and technique with others, she served as an instructor in Antique Identification Courses at both Mercer Community College from 1989 until 1998 and Brookdale Community College from 1989 until 2006. She was also an instructor at Newark Museum in Newark, New Jersey in 1996.
As a television personality, she had the esteem honor of working in several venues with various broadcasting channels. She was a Resident Expert Appraiser for Antiques: Show and Sell from 2004 until 2005, a Guest Appraiser on Treasures in Your Home in 2000, and as a Resident Expert Appraiser on Personal FX The Collectible Show from 1994 until 1998 which was highly privileged to receive and Emmy Nomination. She was also featured as an Expert Appraiser for Eppraisals.com from 1999 until 2001. On May 30, 2000 she was the featured on air talent for NBC Televisions Extra.
Through one of her loves in life, quilting, she authored the book The Collectors Guide to Quilts which was published by Wallace Homestead Publishing. She co-authored the Antique Identification and Resource Workbook Collectors Series; as well as published articles in Antiques and Collectible Magazine, County Living Magazine, Eleclectic Magazine, and the Two River Times Newspaper. She was also featured in interviews published by the New Jersey Country Road Magazine, Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel, and McCalls Magazine.
In 1992, she was the recipient of the International Society of Appraisers Legislation Award. She was a member of International Society of Appraisers, Colleton County Historical and Preservation Society, and Monmouth County Historical Society. She was a guild member of Wintertheur Museum, and was a member and past president of New Jersey Chapter of International Society of Appraisers. She was of the Roman Catholic faith.
Experienced as an expert witness in the State of New Jersey, she to this day maintained major computerized data bases of resources for numerous categories of antiques, collectibles, fine art, and decorative accessories, as well as maintained a research library in excess of one thousand volumes. Her knowledge was vast and solid having been quoted by McCalls Magazine, Country Living Magazine, Fox News Services, Bergen County New Jersey Record, Newark Star Ledger, and various other major antiques and collectible trade publications.
Surviving are: her childhood sweet heart whom she was married to for thirty years, Mr. Roger Kenneth Anderson; a son, Jayson McLennan and his wife Erin of Howell, New Jersey; a daughter, Britton McLennan and her husband Joseph Laspino of West Long Branch, New Jersey; and a brother, Fred Anton of Ocean Township, New Jersey. There is one grandchild, Alexandra Laspino.
