Mrs. Sue Lane White Baker, 89, of Round O Road, Round O, entered into eternal rest Tuesday afternoon, January 27, 2015, at the Mount Pleasant Hospital. She was the widow of Mr. Clarence Butler Baker who died in 1984.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 oclock Friday afternoon, January 30, 2015, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The Reverend Wayne Golden and The Reverend Dr. John Carrignan officiating. Interment will follow in Live Oak Cemetery, South Jefferies Boulevard, Walterboro.
Born July 28, 1925, a native of Jasper, Georgia, she was the last surviving child of the late Willie J. White and the late Emma Cross White. A true southern lady, Miss Sue as she was affectionately known throughout the lowcountry of South Carolina, was a most beloved Christian mother and friend. Everyone knew of her talent and revered her delicious baking. Her cakes were delicious and over the course of her life, she baked and decorated countless wedding cakes as well as provided cakes for every type of occasion celebrated. Her second love in life was her church. Since 1961, she has been an active member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Round O. At her church, she was active in many aspects of the churchs work, and has served as Chair of the Hospitality and Social Committee, Treasurer of the Womens Missionary Union, and was a member of the Erie Dodd Sunday School Class. She was also known by her presence in many of our local floral shops in Walterboro. She began with Bill Allen at Jennys House of Flowers in Walterboro prior to her career at the Historic Gladys Murray Flowers on East Washington Street in Walterboro.
Surviving are: her two children, Randy Michael Baker of Columbia and Deborah Baker Hill of Walterboro; three grandchildren, Brandon Hill and his wife Samantha, Mercedez Garcia and her husband Silverio, and Kortney Baker; and three great grandchildren, Antonio Garcia, Landon Hill, and Fallon Hill. She is survived by a beloved host of nieces and nephews to include, James and Sarah White of Awendaw and Emily Bickley of Chapin. She was preceded in death by a dear and longtime friend, Mr. J. Mouzon Smoak.
