Master Sergeant Merill Stephen Givens, United States Army (Ret.), known by all as “Stevie”, age 77, of Ruffin, entered into rest Sunday afternoon, June 29, 2025, at his residence.
Born February 15, 1948, in Walterboro, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Merill Givens and the late Alicia Ulmer Givens. Stevie served faithfully in the United States Army for thirty-two years until his retirement. Following his time in military service, he worked as a groundskeeper with Cherokee Plantation as well as worked for several years with Breland Hill Farms in Ruffin. A lifelong member of Bethel Methodist Church, Ruffin Charge, he will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. An avid equestrian who dearly enjoyed horseback riding, he served for a number of years as the President of Colleton County Saddle Club.
Surviving are: his wife, Anna Herndon Givens; a son, Stephen Scott Givens (Jamie) of Ruffin; a daughter, Miranda Lousie Givens of Ruffin; a brother, Benjie Givens (Linda) of Ruffin; five grandchildren, Kristen Linder, Logan Givens (Patricia), Stephanie Givens, Cooper Tuten, and Caysen Tuten; seven great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be directed in his memory to: Wounded Warrior Project, Post Office Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
A celebration of his life and service will be held from 6 o’clock until 8 o’clock Monday afternoon, July 7, 2025, at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Homes, Walterboro Chapel.
