Mr. Steven Andrew Vensko, affectionately known by many as Steve, age 71, of 236 Salkehatchie Road, Yemassee, entered into his state of eternal rest Saturday afternoon, July 24, 2010, at his residence following a long hard battle against cancer.
Funeral services will be conducted 10 oclock Thursday morning, July 29, 2010, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro, with The Reverend Fr. Jeffrey Kendall officiating. The final commendation and farewell will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Hendersonville Highway, Walterboro.
Mr. Vensko was born October 9, 1938, in Dunbar, Pennsylvania, and was a son of the late John G. Vensko and the late Anna Leja Vensko. He served his country faithfully in the United States Air Force and then after his time in service continued his career in a civil service capacity. He worked for the Naval Aviation Engineering Service Unit at the Beaufort Marine Corp Air Station retiring with over thirty years of service as a supervisor. For many years he served the town of Yemassee faithfully, having served as the Election Commissioner until this past election, and was involved with the recreation department in sports as well as helping with many other town actives. Until the age of fifty-three he played softball and will fondly be remembered for his love of shrimping.
Surviving are: his wife of fifty years, Mrs. Dorothy Gersna Vensko; a son, Steven P. Vensko of Yemassee; four daughters, Darlene Kullberg of Canyon Lake, Texas, Connie S. Vensko of Yemassee, Michelle V. Fairbanks, of Anoka Minnesota, and Sharon L. Vensko of Yemassee; four brothers, George Vensko of Virginia, John Vensko of Tennessee, Joseph Vensko of California, and Edward Vensko of Pennsylvania; and a sister, Mary Cogilo of Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by a son, Gregory A. Vensko who died June 18, 1990; two brothers, Michael T. Vensko and William C. Vensko; and a sister, Helen M. Covington.
