Mr. Stanley Duane Holmes, known by many as “Stan”, age 69, entered into rest Sunday afternoon, March 26, 2017, at his home in Walterboro under the care of Agape Hospice.
Funeral services will be conducted 6 o’clock Thursday evening, March 31, 2017, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The Reverend David Blankenship officiating. Interment with military honors will be held 12 noon, Monday, April 3, 2017 at Beaufort National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary Street, Beaufort.
The family will receive friends following the funeral ceremony Thursday evening until 8 o’clock at the funeral home.
Born December 15, 1947 in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late William Irving Holmes and Esther Blackington Holmes. He served our country faithfully in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era, having received the Purple Heart. Stan was a carpenter having retired from Adam’s Construction and he was a member of Canaan Baptist Church, where he was active in the Bible Study as well as in other areas of the church’s work. He was an outdoorsman who dearly loved hunting and fishing, wood crafting, and landscaping. He was active in the Boy Scouts when his sons were younger and was an Eagle Scout with Troop 83 in Canisteo, New York; and was an avid Jeff Gordon racing fan.
Surviving are: his wife, Mrs. Angela Kay Holmes; seven children, Adam Holmes, Nick Holmes, Stanley Holmes, Jr., Steven Holmes, Marcella Oathout, Luke Holmes, and Matthew Holmes; two brothers, Gary Holmes and William Holmes; and two sisters, Diane Mullen and Shirley Popoli. He is survived by numerous grandchildren to include, Marina Waters and Joel Holmes.
