Shirley Black

Walterboro, South Carolina

Mrs. Shirley Avriett Black, 82, of Walterboro, entered into eternal rest Monday evening, May 17, 2021 at Colleton Medical Center.

Born October 25, 1938, she was a daughter of the late George Avriett and Catherine Mathis Avriett.  Shirley grew up in rural Hamilton County, Florida.  She attended the same school from 1st-12th grade in Jennings, Florida.  After graduation, she married her longtime sweetheart, Robert, and they were married 63 years.

Shirley was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, but more importantly, she was dedicated to her Lord and Master.  She worked as a secretary for The Essex Village Church of Christ in Charleston, South Carolina until she retired.  After retirement, she and Robert moved to Walterboro.

Surviving are: her husband, Robert Francis Black of Walterboro; children, Dexter W. Black and his wife Kathy of Round O, Karen Black Rogers and her husband Robert of Commerce, Georgia, and Debbie Black Fellenz and her husband Nick of Spartanburg; brother, Rodger Avriett; sister, Eloise Shadrick; 9 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 11 o’clock, Saturday morning, June 5, 2021 at Essex Village Church of christ, 736 Savage Road, Charleston, South Carolina 29414.

In lieu of flowers, if you so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Walterboro Church of Christ, Post Office Box 2012, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488; or if you prefer, Amedisys Hospice, 2201 Boundary Street, Suite 112, Beaufort, South Carolina 29902.
