Sherry Gibson Polk

Mrs. Sherry Gibson Polk, 61, wife of Carroll Polk, of 1719 Ashton Road, Islandton, entered into rest Thursday morning, February 6, 2014, following a brave and courageous battle at the Roper Hospital in Charleston.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 o’clock Saturday morning, February 8, 2014 from Rice Patch Christian Church Disciples of Christ, 15246 Sniders Highway, Islandton. The Reverend Dr. Thomas Kelly and The Reverend Larry D. Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the churchyard.

Born November 4, 1952, a native of Hampton, South Carolina, she was the daughter of Mrs. Myrtle Spires Gibson and the late Mr. Roy N. Gibson. Until failing health prevailed, she was the Medical Secretary for Dr. Pulaski in Hampton. She was a member of Rice Patch Christian Church – Disciples of Christ, where she was active in many aspects in the church’s work. A much beloved and dedicated member of Rice Patch, she was a former sponsor of the youth group and former pianist and was also a member and past President of their Christian Women’s Fellowship. Sherry lived her life with values and faith, being throughout her life a great Christian friend to many. She loved in former years assisting young couples as a wedding director on one of the happiest days of their life. She also loved great fellowship and sharing her talents as a great southern cook.

Surviving are: her husband of forty–one years, Mr. C. Carroll Polk; and her two sons, Kipp Polk and his wife Dana of Brunson and Gabriel Polk and his wife Raven of Cummings; a grandson, Landon Kipp Polk of Brunson; and her mother, Myrtle Gibson of Varnville. She is also survived by a brother, Ronnie Gibson and his wife Robin of Varnville; her mother-in-law Edith Mae Polk of Islandton; and two brothers-in-law, LaVern Polk and his wife Carolyn of Islandton and Timmy Polk and his wife Barbara of Beaufort; as well as two nephews, Jared Polk and his wife Carey and their child, Addison, and Rodney Gibson; and a niece, Cindy Edwards.

Flowers will be accepted or for those that so desire, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be directed in her memory to: Rice Patch Christian Church, 15246 Sniders Highway, Islandton, South Carolina 29929.
