Sarah Ellen Spell, 65, of 6673 Augusta Highway, Smoaks, entered into her state of eternal rest Sunday afternoon, May 9, 2010, at her residence under the care of Odyssey Health Care Hospice.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 oclock Wednesday morning, May 12, 2010, from Green Pond United Methodist Church, Augusta Highway, Smoaks, with The Reverend Tim Soucy and The Reverend Herbert Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the Spell Cemetery, Augusta Highway, Smoaks.
Miss Spell was born December 26, 1944, in Colleton County and was a daughter of the late John Frederick Spell and the late Ellen Hazel Wilson Spell. She had received her degree in Cosmetology and was a lifelong member of Green Pond United Methodist Church. At her church, she was active in many aspects of the churchs work. For many years, she was the Organ Mistress, Crafts Director of the annual Vacation Bible School, served on the Music Committee, was the Sunday School Superintendant, was the Membership Secretary, and was a Communion Steward. She also chaired and oversaw many other functions and work of the church. She will be fondly remembered as a good southern cook and for the love she possessed for little children, especially her younger nieces and nephews.
Surviving are: three sisters, Vernelle Fulton and her husband Douglas of Summerville, Mildred Nettles of Smoaks, and Becky Ward of Smoaks; and a sister-in-law, Eliet Spell of Colorado Springs, Colorado. There are several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved that also survive. She was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Spell Babb in 2010; and a brother, Robert Edward Spell, Sr. in 1982.
