Sarah Ann Hiers Smyly

Mrs. Sarah Ann Hiers Smyly, 75, of Ruffin, entered into rest Saturday evening, November 28, 2020, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.  She was the loving wife of fifty-three years to the late Mr. Raymond Edward Smyly.

Born August 15, 1945, in Colleton County, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Louie Capers Hiers and the late Reba Davis Hiers.  She retired from Smoaks Manufacturing where she worked a long and dedicated career.  A devoted Christian, who possessed a devotion to reading her bible, she lived with a purpose of family, giving great attention to their needs.  She was truly a great southern cook.

Surviving are: two sons, Tony Smyly and his wife Kathy and Greg Smyly and his wife Donna all of Ruffin; a daughter, Yvonne Herndon and her husband Benjie of Ruffin; four brothers, Marshall Hiers of Varnville, Dan Hiers (Linda) of Hampton, Doug Hiers (Vickie) of Hampton, and Terry Hiers of Varnville; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Hiers; two brothers-in-law, Lamar Smyly and Allen Smyly; eight grandchildren, T.J. Smyly, English Smyly (Elizabeth), Bryce Smyly, Tanner Smyly, Brantley Walling, Frankie Jacques (Rachel), Mark Jacques, and Allen Jacques (Samantha); and three great grandchildren, Quay, A.J., and Shawn as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins whom she dearly loved to include Cameron Carver (Jenny).  She was preceded in death by a brother, Louie Hiers.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be directed in her memory to: Saint Jude Children Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, December 2, 2020, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro.   The Reverend Cheri Yates officiating.   The family will receive friends following the funeral ceremony.   Sarah Ann will be laid to rest in a family committal ceremony at the Smyly Cemetery in Ruffin.
