Sarah Hiers

Mrs. Sarah Copeland Hiers, 91, of Ehrhardt, entered the gates of Heaven on Saturday, August 24, 2013 while hospitalized in Beaufort, SC.

Funeral services will be held 2 o’clock, Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at St. Johns Baptist Church, Ehrhardt. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Hiers was born January 12, 1922 in Ehrhardt and was a daughter of the late JW Copeland and Martha “Patty” Miley Copeland. She was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and attended St. Johns Baptist Church. Sarah was a strong but gentle southern lady who exemplified faith and love to all that knew her. She was an avid cook and baker known for her coconut and caramel cakes. It was in her nature and faith to prepare and fulfill the needs of those around her as she took excellent care of her family, neighbors and friends. Sarah was well known for taking tremendous pride in the appearance of her home and yard. She maintained true friendships with her loyal beautician, Mrs. Darlene Rhodes, of forty plus years and also Mrs. Annie Ruth Odom, who assisted with household chores but also looked out for her as a family member would do.

Sarah is survived by her sons, Mr. William C. Hiers (Joette) and Mr. Alvin Hiers, both of Ehrhardt; grandchildren, Allison Bessinger (Jason) of Beaufort, Calin Hiers (Joy) of Aiken, Kyle Hiers (Kate) of Villa Rica, Georgia, and Kara Carrigg (Blake) of Graniteville; great grandchildren, Wade Williamson (Heather) of Eufala, Alabama; Shelby and Jace Bessinger of Beaufort, Cooper and Mary Gray Hiers of Aiken, and Bella Carrigg of Graniteville; numerous sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll B. Hiers; sisters, Catherine C. Rentz and Willie Mae C. Brickle; brother, Patrick Copeland; and daughter-in-law, Elaine R. Hiers.
