Mr. Samuel Mikelett Barnes, Sr., 88, of 1172 Green Pond Highway entered into eternal rest on Sunday, February 1, 2009, at the Trident Medical Center in Charleston. Mr. Barnes was born March 29, 1920 in Hampton County and was the son of the late Samuel Hartwell Barnes and Leona Mitlda Rivers Barnes. He was a retired heavy equipment operator with the Walterboro Pole Plant and was a Marine Corp veteran of World War II. He was a Baptist. He loved fishing, gardening and the outdoors and was a hard worker. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, February 4, 2009, in the Chapel of the Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home. Burial, Live Oak Cemetery.
Surviving are; his wife of 69 years, Roberta Headden Barnes, children, Shirley Varn and husband, Grady of Walterboro, Sammy Barnes, Jr. and wife, Shirley of Walterboro, Caroline Moyet and husband, Carmelo of St. George and Jackie Barnes and wife Paulette of Walterboro, 18 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a grandson and 2 granddaughters.
