WALTERBORO " Mr. Samuel Creevy Sam Reid, 79, of 212 Brownlehe Street, entered into his eternal rest Friday, September 18, 2009, at The Hospice Center of Charleston.

Funeral services will be held 11 oclock Monday morning, September 21, 2009, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Walterboro. Interment will follow in Glendale Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Reid was born September 21, 1929 in Columbia and was a son of the late Samuel Creevy Reid, Jr. and Myrtle Myers Reid. Mr. Reid served his country faithfully in the United States Navy and then in Navy Reserves, retiring after 27 years. He also retired from Westvaco Paper Mill after 42 years of service. He was a devoted and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He held many offices in the church including High Council (Charleston Stake), High Priest (Charleston and Walterboro), Ward Mission leader for Walterboro Branch, 2nd Counselor for the Walterboro Branch and Branch Executive Secretary which he served as until his passing. Sam was a devoted and loving husband and father.

Surviving are: his wife, Barbara Thomas Reid; brother, Sheldon Reid and his wife Susan of Moncks Corner; sister, Barbara Reid Singletary of Charleston; and many beloved nieces and nephews whom he loved as his own. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca Converse Reid.
