Mr. Sam Winstead, 89, of Altman Road, Hampton, died Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Hampton Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 2 pm, Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Sandy Run Baptist Church with Reverend Paul W. Reid officiating. Interment with Masonic Rites will follow in Crocketville Cemetery.
Mr. Winstead was born July 31, 1921 in Rogersville, Tennessee and was a son of the late Edward Winstead and Rebecca Justus Winstead. Mr. Winstead served his country faithfully in the United States Marine Corps, having served during World War II. After his tenure in the military, he worked for 42 years at Westinghouse, where he retired as a Quality Control Supervisor. He then served as a Bailiff at the Hampton County Courthouse for twenty years. He was a faithful member of Sandy Run Baptist Church where he was a Deacon Emeritus and was Sunday School Teacher for 53 years. He was a member of Crocketville Masonic Lodge, No. 248 and The Order of the Eastern Star for over fifty years, and was a Boy Scout Leader for 30 years.
Surviving are: his wife, Blanche Altman Winstead of Hampton; son, Danny Winstead and his wife Iris of North Charleston; and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Winstead of Greenwood. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles, Marshall, William and Alvin Winstead.
