Ruth Byrd Gruber

October 24, 1922 — October 29, 2015

Mrs. Ruth Byrd Gruber, 93, of Round O, entered into eternal rest Thursday, October 29, 2015 at her residence.  She was first married to the late Ellis Gary Byrd and was the widow of the late James Gruber.

Funeral services will be held 2 pm, Sunday, November 1, 2015 at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Walterboro Chapel.  Interment will follow in Gruber Cemetery.

Mrs. Gruber was born October 24, 1922 in Dorchester County and was a daughter of the late Wesley Canaday and Nellie Harbeson Canaday.  She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, was a former member of Maple Cane Baptist Church, where she was a former church clerk and served on the hostess committee, and in later years attended Faith Crossing.  She loved the outdoors and working with her flowers in her garden.  Most of all she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who dearly loved her family.

Surviving are: her daughters, Mildred B. Connelly (Robert) of Reevesville, Brenda B. Mizell of Round O, Linda B. Infinger of Walterboro, Shirley B. Jones (Chris) of Walterboro, and Cindy B. Simmons (Butch) of Walterboro; step children, Allen Gruber (Janet) of Round O, Robert Gruber of Knightsville, Timothy Gruber (Stephanie) of Round O, and Alice G. Fennell of Walterboro; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; and a family that she adopted by heart, Reverend Naveen and Trena Balakrishnan and their children.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Merle Byrd; and 10 brothers and sisters.

The family would like to thank all of the faithful caregivers for the love and care they have given to Mrs. Ruth during her illness.
