Russell Moore

Summerville, South Carolina

Mr. Russell Coleman Moore, 80, of Summerville, passed away Saturday morning, July 31, 2021 at Summerville Medical Center.

Born November 20, 1940 in Hendersonville, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Lawrence Olynn “Lynn” Moore and Lucia Varn Moore.  He served his country in the United States Army as well as the United States Air Force.  He was a truck driver for Thurston Motor Lines for 24 years, retired from Overnight Transportation, and drove for many other companies over his 41 ½ years.  He loved trucking and had over 4 million safety miles. Mr. Russell was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, and especially just loved being outside.  He was a member of the former Buckhorn Hunt Club in Dorchester County.  He was loving husband and father who dearly loved all of his family. He was a member of Tall Pines Baptist Church.

Surviving are: his wife, Patricia Wheeler Moore of Summerville; children, Michael S. Moore and his wife Inez of Ridgeville, Amanda Jean Rogers and her husband Rodney of Ridgeville, Wyan Young and her husband Lonnie of Summerville, and Heather Elizabeth Rogers and her husband David of Illinois; grandchildren, Hannah Nicole Rogers, Jessica Elaine Battle and her husband Andre, John R. Tumblin, Jr., Justin K. Tumblin and his wife Macie, Jessica Beck and her husband Phil, Lauren Carey and her husband Tyler, Heather Young, Michael E. Moore and Daniel S. Moore; great grandchildren, Jesse K. Tumblin, Raisa Autumn Battle, Della Grace Battle, Kensei Beck, and Clara “Montana” Carey; sister, Cindy Gibbons and her husband Kenneth of Walterboro; brothers, James Moore and his wife Merilee of Beaufort, Joseph Moore and his wife Stella of Scranton, and Larry Moore of Ridgeland; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Pepper “Hootie”.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Donnie Moore; and sisters, Helen Weatherford and Alice Barrineau.

A Celebration of Life will be held 3 o’clock, Saturday, August 7, 2021 at Black Creek Baptist Church, 4931 Black Creek Road, Walterboro.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
