Born June 22, 1959, a native of San Antonio, Texas, he made Walterboro his home for the past eight years. He served his country faithfully in the United States Navy as a submariner during the Cold War. Upon making Walterboro his home, he started working with the Colleton County Facilities Maintenance. He then transferred to the Colleton Museum and Farmer’s Market where he began as the Education Coordinator and had recently been promoted to the Assistant Director. Rusty will be fondly remembered by his fellow workers as an exemplary, hard-working, and intelligent co-worker, and by the locals of a community he greatly loved for his dedication and care to the position he held with great admiration, always promoting new projects and venues to the Museum and Market. Rusty made his mark on the Museum in short-order, always anticipating a need before others even thought of it, selflessly working hard and often long hours without ever complaining.

He attended Bethel Presbyterian Church in the Historic District of Walterboro, and was a member of the Colleton County Historical and Preservation Society and the Friends of the Colleton County Animal Shelter, working diligently beside his wife as she has served as President of the organization because of his love for all living things. Rusty will be fondly remembered for his loving smile and dedication, never uttering an unkind word about anyone, as well as his love for working with his hands. Also among his favorite pastimes was horseback riding and being on the water.

Surviving are: his wife, Mrs. Laura Moore Clark; his mother, Mrs. Billie Crews Clark of Walterboro; two sons, Benji Dejapa and his wife Teresa of Gulfport, Mississippi and Vince Dejapa of Summerville; two daughters, Ashley Early of Charleston and Sabrina Rodriguez of Goose Creek; and a sister, Mary Ann Adelman of Fort Worth, Texas. There are seven grandchildren as well as his father and mother-in-law, John and Brenda Moore of Charleston that also survive.

Flowers will be accepted, or for those that so wish, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to: Friends of the Colleton County Animal Shelter, 33 Poor Farm Road, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
