Rudy Carter

Mr. Myles Rudolph “Rudy” Carter, age 86, entered into rest Tuesday evening, February 11, 2020, at his home in Walterboro.

Born October 28, 1933, in Dorchester County, South Carolina, he was a son of the late William Ethridge Carter and the late Annie Ree Bailey Carter.  He served our country faithfully in the United States Army at the ending of the Korean Conflict.  He worked for forty-three years with Asten Hill in Walterboro having begun as a weaver and eventually retired as a machinist.   He was a faithful member of Great Swamp Baptist Church in Walterboro.  At his church, he was a Trustee and Honorary Deacon Emeritus.  He was instrumental in the design and rebuilding of the church’s new sanctuary after it perished in the fire of 2011, having drafted the design that was selected by the congregation for the church’s rebuilding.  He was also an avid outdoorsman who dearly loved hunting and fishing.

Surviving are:  his wife of sixty years: Mrs. Emily Wolfe Carter; three children, Rose Carter Hiers and her husband Glen of Walterboro, Terry Carter and his wife Janice of Walterboro, and Peggy Carter Beach and her husband Anthony of Ruffin; a brother, Aubrey Carter and his wife Lola of Summerville; eight grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

Flowers will be accepted, or for those that desire, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to: Great Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 3396 Hendersonville Highway, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon, February 15, 2020, in Great Swamp Baptist Church, 3396 Hendersonville Highway, Walterboro.   Pastor Doug Ludlam and Pastor Jack Padgett officiating.   Interment with veteran honors will follow in Great Swamp Cemetery.    Serving as honorary escorts will be: Gerald Lemacks, Donald Crosby, Brooks Williams, Allen Thompson, David Drawdy, Alton Crosby, Matt Rentz and Johnny Craven.

The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon prior to the funeral ceremony beginning at 12:30pm in the church sanctuary.
