Rudolph Sauls

April 24, 1931 — February 6, 2012

Mr. Rudolph Sauls, 80, of 1104 Yemassee Highway, Varnville, died Monday, February 6, 2012 at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was the husband of the late Veda Nell Smith Sauls.

Funeral services will be held 3 pm, Thursday, February 9, 2012 at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Varnville-Hampton Chapel. Interment with Masonic Rites will follow in Johnson-St. Paul Cemetery.

Mr. Sauls was born April 24, 1931 in Hampton County and was a son of the late Robbie Sauls and Leatha Bell Sauls. He was a retired barber for the US Marine Corps at Parris Island, where he worked for 38 years and retired as the manager of the barber shop; and served his country in the US Army. He was a member of Varnville Baptist Church. He was a life member of Evergreen Masonic Lodge #153 in Hampton and regularly attended the Port Royal Masonic Lodge while he was working at Parris Island. Mr. Sauls was an avid motorcycle rider, car enthusiast and traveler; and was a former president of Radio Rouges of Beaufort and the Grays Roadrunners. He enjoyed working with his rental property and will be remembered most as a devoted family man.

Surviving are: his children, Loran Sauls and his wife Diane of Hampton, Renee Weathers of Varnville, Jeffrey Sauls and his wife Pam of Varnville, Julie Clendenen and her husband Mike of Savannah, GA, and Mayor Nat Shaffer and his wife Becky of Varnville; grandchildren, Christy Sauls, Shawn Weathers, Chad (Nicole) Sauls, Leslie (Hudson) Miley, Ashley (Jason) Ladd, Jason Palazzolo, Cody Sauls, Blake Sauls, Wilton Sauls and Paige Clendenen; great grandchildren, Justin Sauls, Parker Shaffer, Brandon Sauls, Banks Shaffer, Julianne Miley, NelliBeth Shaffer, Glenn Sauls, Autumn Ladd and Kaylee Sauls. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Sauls.
