Ruby Hiott Henderson

Biography

Mrs. Ruby Hiott Henderson, 97, of Shiloh Loop in the Sniders Community of Ruffin, entered into rest Thursday afternoon, February 20, 2014, at the Oakwood Health Care Center in Walterboro following a brief illness. She was twice married, first to the late Mr. Ambrose Ackerman Hiott, Jr. and secondly to the late Mr. William "Bill" Henderson.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 o'clock Monday morning, February 24, 2014, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The Reverend Eric Bjork officiating. Interment will follow in Doctor's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, 126 Doctor's Creek Road, Walterboro.

Born September 6, 1916, a native of Heyward, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Lattie Crayton Smith and the late Mary Geneva Rowe Smith. During the 1930's and 1940's she worked at the cigar factory and was retired clerk from Edwards' Five and Dime in Walterboro. She was the oldest living member of Doctor's Creek Baptist Church and was a charter member of the Charleston Post of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary. Ruby will always be fondly remembered for her love of life, being a farm girl at heart, and for the love she had for others.

Surviving are: a son, Ambrose A. "Sonny" Hiott, III and his wife Brenda of Ruffin; and a daughter, LeNora Hiott Hall of Edisto Island. During her life, she was blessed with the love of nine grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; and eleven great great grandchildren; her beloved Short Haired Dotson, Molly; as well as a host of other beloved family members. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Millar Smith; and a son-in-law, A. Marvin Hall.
