Roy Wright

Biography

- Mr. Roy W. Wright, 71, of Walterboro, went to be with the Lord on May 18, 2012 following sudden arterial complications and a short battle with leukemia.

He was affectionately known to his many family and friends as "big Roy", "High-Pockets", "Mr. Roy" and "Uncle Roy". He loved playing basketball with his teammates at Highland Park School, Lenoir City High, The University of Tennessee and Tennessee Tech University. Later he enjoyed working 43 years in the automotive parts business and in his spare time he liked fishing and supporting his nephews and great nephews as the excelled in sports. Highlights in his later life have been the LCHS Sports Hall of Fame celebrations and the "Fabulous Fifties" reunions held in Lenoir City each year.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Roy and Marguerite Wright, brother-in-law, Dan Smith, father-in-law, George Evans and a very special Siamese cat called "Baby".

His memories will be cherished by his loving wife of 46 years, Sue Evans Wright; sisters, Ethel Smith (Dan) of Cleveland, TN, Lon Black (Jim) of Denmark, SC, Eula Martin (Jennings) of Blackville, SC, and Margaret Black (Elvin) of Cordova, SC; brother, Bob Wright (Susan) of Barnwell, SC, mother-in-law, Annie Evans of Lenoir City, TN; sister-in-law, Linda E. Williams (Dewey) of Lenoir City, TN; along with 14 nephews; 11 great nephews; 13 great nieces; and a host of friends everywhere.

A memorial service will be held at 2"00 pm on Sunday, May 27, 2012 at North Walterboro Baptist Church, 2177 North Jefferies Highway, Walterboro, SC. The family will receive friends following the service. A second memorial service will be held at Second Baptist Church, 3rd Avenue, Lenoir City in July during "Fifties" weekend, date and time to be announced later.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to North Walterboro Baptist Church, PO Box 905, Walterboro, SC 29488; or to Second Baptist Church, 406 W. 3rd Avenue, Lenoir City, TN 37771.

The family would like to especially thank Dr. Elizabeth Christian, CHOA employees and the many doctors, nurses, and cardiovascular surgeons at Roper Hospital.
