Mayor Roy Lovell Fender, 78, of Lodge Highway, Lodge, entered into eternal rest Sunday, January 1, 2012 at Roper St. Francis Hospital in Charleston. He was the husband of the late Anne Ruth Varnadoe Fender, to whom he was married for fifty years.

Funeral services will be held at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon, January 4, 2012 at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Walterboro Chapel. Interment will follow in Carter's Ford Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Fender was born September 24, 1933 in Colleton County and was son of the late Benjamin Franklin Fender and Permelia Fralix Fender. He was the Mayor of Lodge, an office he has held for 20 years. He retired from Savannah River Site. Mr. Fender was a member of Carter's Ford Baptist Church, was a member and Past Master of Hope Masonic Lodge #122, The York Rite of Hampton and The Omar Shrine Temple of Charleston.

Surviving are: his children, Wayne Fender and his wife Cynthia of Islandton, Donny Fender and his wife Deanne of Smoaks and Roy Fender and his wife Patty of Lodge; grandchildren, Wayne Fender of Columbia, Stacey Langdale and her husband Greg of Williams, Ryan Fender of Islandton and Heather Fender of Lodge; great grandson, Jaxson Cooper Langdale; and 22 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters.
