Roy F. Brabham

Walterboro, South Carolina

Senior Chief Roy Franklin Brabham, United States Navy (Ret.), age 87, of Walterboro, entered into rest Wednesday afternoon, July 20, 2022, at the Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia.

Born March 27, 1935, in Bamberg, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Willie J. Brabham and the late Emma Lee Bunch Brabham.  He served our country faithfully in the United States Navy and retired with the distinguished rank of Senior Chief.  He served during the Vietnam Era and was stationed in the Mediterranean during the Israel-Egypt Conflict.  He was a 1979 graduate of the University of South Carolina with his Associate degree in Industrial Electricity.   Roy was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church in Walterboro and was an at large member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a member of the Fleet Reserve and the Disabled American Veterans.   He and his wife were both active in the PEP Club as well as the H2U group at Colleton Medical Center.    He enjoyed reminiscing about the service days of his life and listening to books and the Bible.

Surviving are: his wife, the light and love of his life for sixty-six years, Mrs. Hazel McMillan Brabham; two daughters, Cynthia Williams and her husband Chris of Walterboro and Dawn Brabham of Walterboro; two brothers, Harry Brabham of Mississippi and Carlisle Brabham of Bamberg; and four sisters, Doris Ann Redmond of Barnwell, Betty Lynn Mejas of Batesbrug-Leesville, Annette Belk of Mississippi and Patricia Jones of Bamberg.  There are four grandchildren, Kelli Dellinger and her husband Matt of Mount Pleasant, Justin Williams and his wife Crystal of Walterboro, Anteus Autlav of Walterboro, and Rachel Johnson of Utah; and six great grandchildren, Owen, Adam, Kristen, Gavin, Emma, and Hazel Pearl; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by two children, Roy Franklin Brabham, Jr. and Judith Broderick.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be directed in his memory to: Connie Maxwell Children’s Ministries Post Office Box 1178, Greenwood, SC 29648-1178.

Funeral services will be conducted 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon, July 23, 2022, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro.  The Reverend Rodney Lyons officiating.   Interment with military honors will follow in Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 2210 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro.
