Mrs. Rosie Etta Carter Padgett, age 97, entered into rest Saturday afternoon, November 29, 2014, at her home in Walterboro. She was the loving wife of sixty-four years to the late Mr. Philip Bill Madison Padgett, Jr.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 oclock Monday afternoon, December 1, 2014, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The Reverend David Jackson officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Baptist Churchyard, 7345 Jefferies Highway, Walterboro.
Born September 25, 1917, a native of the Canadys area of Walterboro, she was a daughter of the late Newton Alvin Carter and the late Lutitia Bailey Carter. She was a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where throughout her life she was active in almost all aspects of the churchs work. She loved to sing and was a member of the church choir for many years. Along with her husband, she enjoyed fishing, farming and sharing the stories of her pastimes and the fruits of her labors with family, friends, and neighbors. Many will always recall a visit to the Padgett home as an uplifting and enjoyable experience within a place that shared love, Gods word, and principle. Even though Rosie never worked outside the home, she will always be remembered as a hardworking mother who placed the needs and wants of her family first in her life. A very talented seamstress by trade, she crafted many beautiful clothes for her herself, her children, and others.
She raised three children, instilling in them the same principles, values and standards that she lived by; Marcia P. Murray (Gray Pinnix) of Chapin, Paulette P. Dillard of Goose Creek, and Philip M. Padgett, III (Linda) of White Oak, Georgia. She is also survived by two sisters, Sadie Harrison of Oklahoma and Corinne Carter of Lexington; five grandchildren, Wesley Murray (Michelle), Lara Cannady, Kelly Cannady (Shawn Williams) Paige Smith (Justin), and Philip Madison Padgett, IV (Jessica); as well as seven great grandchildren, Shannon Murray, Savannah Murray, Philip Madison Padgett, V, Zack Padgett, Zoey Padgett, Carter Rose Smith, and Justin Jay Smith, Jr. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Carlisle Carter, Elizabeth Cummings, Thelma Harrison, and Mildred Roberts.
