Mr. Ronald Wayne Lanter, 77, of Allendale, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, February 6, 2017 at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Varnville-Hampton Chapel. Interment will follow in Varnville Cemetery.
Born February 7, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois, he was a son of the late James Lanter and Elene Adams Lanter. He retired from the Unites States Army after 22 years of service and served two tours in Vietnam. He then retired from Clarion as an electrician. He was a member of True Faith Baptist Church in Olar and was a true Civil War historian.
Surviving are: his wife, Doris Bridges Lanter of Allendale; son, James Lanter (Dana) of Portland, Oregon; step-sons, Steve Friend (Charlotte) of Bloomfield, Indiana, Christopher Friend (Rita) of Friendsville, Maryland, and Alan Friend (Tonya) of Cumberland, Maryland; brothers, Carey Dean Lanter of Kentucky, Gerald Lanter of Kentucky, Michael Lanter of Kentucky, and Cecil Lanter of Texas; sister, Sandra Lanter of Conneticut; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
