Mr. Ronald Rentz Carter, 64, affectionately known by many as Rollie, formerly of Walterboro, South Carolina, died Saturday morning, November 25, 2010, in his home in Columbia, South Carolina.



Mr. Carter was born on November 11, 1946 in Walterboro and was the son of the late Barney Wyman Carter and Marguerite Rentz Carter. He was a member of First Christian Church of Walterboro. He graduated from Walterboro High School in May of 1965. There, he played football and baseball. He was best known as the drummer for the local band, The Bohemians. He attended the University of North Carolina in Ashville from July of 1965 until June of 1967. He was stationed in West Berlin, Germany from 1967 until being discharged in 1971 where he secured a role in the U.S. Army Intelligence. Once returning to South Carolina, he attended and graduated from the University of South Carolina in May of 1975, with a degree in journalism. He began his career with the South Carolina Parks, Recreation and Tourism in December of 1975, where he held the title of Agency Deputy Director when he retired in April of 2003. He continued to assist the S.C.P.R.T. in a temporary capacity until March of 2004. He will be remembered as a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend and for his passion for golf and the Carolina Gamecocks.



Surviving are his brother, Donald Carter of Pinopolis, SC; nephew, Dustin Carter and his wife Jamie of Simpsonville, SC and their son Cooper Carter who he preferred to call him granduncle; nephew, Michael Newton and his wife Luann of Tampa, FL; and niece Misty Watkins and her husband Brian of Wahiawa, HI. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Wyman Carter and Barney Allen Carter.



A memorial service will be conducted at 2 oclock Sunday afternoon, December 5, 2010, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The family will receive friends following the funeral ceremony in the Parlor of the Funeral Chapel.
