Mr. Walter Roger Overton, 82, of Bluffton, entered into eternal rest Friday morning, May 6, 2016, at the Coastal Carolina Hospital in Hardeeville.
Funeral services will be conducted 3 n o’clock Monday afternoon, May 9, 2016, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The Reverend Tim Williford, Sr. and The Reverend Tim Williford, Jr. officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the funeral ceremony beginning at 2 o’clock that afternoon at the funeral home.
Born May 1, 1934, a native of Madison, Iowa, he was a son of the late Merle Reverie Overton and the late Esther May Davis Overton. He served our country faithfully in the United States Navy from 1950 until 1954. He retired after thirty-five dedicated years from IBM as a System Analysist. He was a member of Sandy Dam United Methodist Church in Walterboro, where he has served as the Church Historian and a Sunday School Teacher. An avid golfer, Roger will always be remembered for the love he possessed for his wife and family, always being a present help for those who needed him. He was also talented at wood crafting and has fashioned many beautiful photo frames for his wife’s paintings.
Surviving are: his loving wife, Mrs. Patricia Hiott Overton; two daughters, Shelia Tatti and her husband Joe Tatti of Mashawville and Sharon Williford and her husband The Reverend Tim Williford, Sr. of Apex, North Carolina; a sister, Helen Lorentzen; a brother, Darrel Overton; and a brother-in-law, John Hiott and his wife Sherrill of Walterboro. There are seven grandchildren, Patricia Roberton, John Roberton, Jr., Rachel Roberton, Joey Tatti Cooper and her husband Glenn, Nicole Tatti, Timothy Williford and his wife Kimber, and Jennifer Williford DeGuliam and her husband Jered; and five great grandchildren, Nikolai, Landen, Logan, Charlotte, and Peyton. He was preceded in death by two siblings, Barbara Mandery and Larry Overton; and his wife’s parents, Norman Hiott and Minnie Hiott Platte.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to: Sandy Dam United Methodist Church, care of 4916 Charleston Highway, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
