Funeral services will be conducted 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon from Hopewell Baptist Church, 6869 Parkers Ferry Road, Adams Run. Interment will follow in the churchyard.

Born March 30, 1942, a native of Bamberg County, he was a son of the late George Cecil Bishop and the late Sarah Juanita Clayton Bishop. For forty-eight years, he worked diligently as a barber, having started his career working alongside his father for twenty years before opening the Bishop Family Hair Care in Charleston, where he quickly became a well-known icon in the community. After sixteen years of operating his own barbershop, he closed his doors and finished his career working under Mr. Bubba Chaplin. In earlier years, as a child and young adult, he was raised on the family farm in Bamberg where with his siblings he quickly learned the life of a farmer and the true meaning of hard work, a characteristic that followed him throughout his life. He will be fondly remembered for his love of family, always centering his life around them as well as his passion for hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Adams Run where he and his wife resided for many years.

Surviving are: his wife and faithful companion of fifty-three years, Mrs. Joyce Wood Bishop; a son, Roger Scott "Scotty" Bishop and his wife Ann of Cottageville; a daughter, Sarah Elizabeth "Liz" Landsiedel and her husband Paul of Buffalo, Wyoming; a brother, Jacob A. Bishop and his wife Carol of Ravenel; and a sister, Alice Bishop Lyons and her husband Howard of Bamberg. There are seven grandchildren, Brandon Michael Burgess, Roger Scott Bishop, Jr., Kaitlin Elizabeth Burgess, Russell Keith Bishop, Anthony Steven Bishop, Matthew Dillon Burgess, and Travis Alexander Bishop that also survive. He was preceded in death by an infant brother and sister.
