Rodney Hackney

September 14, 1941 — May 23, 2011

Mr. Rodney Gignilliat Hackney, 69, of Ehrhardt, SC and Fayetteville, NC, passed away Monday, May 23, 2011 at his home in Ehrhardt. He was the widower of the late Esther Ann Turner Hackney.

Funeral services will be held 5 pm, Thursday, May 26, 2011 at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Ehrhardt-Bamberg Chapel. Interment will follow in Bethany Cemetery in Ehrhardt.

Mr. Hackney was born September 14, 1941 in Bonifay, Florida and was a son of the late Ollie Lee Hackney and Charlotte Gignilliat Hackney. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army and the served the Federal Government for 35 years, having retired from Fort Bragg as an Information Technology Specialist. He was a member of Cedar Falls Baptist Church. He loved staying at his pond house in Ehrhardt, where he enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He was a classic car enthusiast, loved NASCAR and was a former softball coach.

Surviving are: his fiance, Pat Wroblewski of Fayetteville; daughters, Tracy Hackney Denby and her husband Ed of Orlando, Florida and Sandee Hackney of Garner, North Carolina; brothers, Ollie "Trez" Hackney of Lake Murray and Russell Hackney of Ehrhardt; sisters, Martha Ann Warren of Williams and Barbara Stillings of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Rodney "Roddy" G. Hackney, Jr. and a brother, Lawrence Hackney.
